Notes from 1/31 Session (Session #1)

Douven Staul - Mentor to the party, went looking for artifacts in dig site near Winterhaven
Mayree Staul - Wife of Douven, asked the players to help look for douven who went missing
Lord Padraig - Mayor of Winterhaven , friend of Douven

Summary of Session #1

Mayree has asked the party to look for Douven. The party travels to Winterhaven to get leads
on where Douven might be. Along the way , the party is ambushed by a pack of kobolds but
successfully fights them off…. and there was much rejoicing.

Summary of Session #2(2/7/09)

  • The group arrives at WinterHaven looking for answers..
  • Guards asks us what we are doing here in the town. They seemed friendly once they found out we killed some Kobolds.
  • We went to the Inn.
  • Kriv asks that Sarlor checks out the town, finds a pawn shop, so we can sell our loot.
  • Korin suggested some of us go meet the mayor to see if they have heard anything about our missing master.
  • Byrger makes a scene at the Inn trying to get info from the Bartender, his efforts are fruitless to say the least.
  • Kriv and Sarlor go to sell our loot from the previous battle, Kandahar goes to the nearest church while the rest of the gang try to have a peaceful lunch at the Inn.
  • Kriv talks to the bar maid about our quest and asks if we can talk to the Mayor.
  • The barmaid tells Kriv that the Mayor usually comes to the Inn for Dinner.
  • Reva and Sarlor try to get info from the half-elf girl thats eating at the Inn, her response was less than informative.
  • Korin talks to the old guy at the Inn, they talk about Kobolds, the harvest, and a conversation he had with our master.
  • They talked about a site Dalvin was interested in visiting. The old man offers to write us a map to the site Dalvin wanted to go.
  • Kriv asks for the map.
  • Byrger talks to Kriv and asks why dont we talk to the Mayor, everyone else gathers together and discusses whether to go to the burial ground or stay at the Inn.
  • The Bar maid lets us all stay the night.
  • The mayor walks in the Inn and talks to the group.
  • We are offered to go on a side quest but our leader decided not to at the moment.
  • Sarlor goes out and investigates the guard who’s note he stole.
  • The note was about the guard meeting up with a girl. The thief tells this to Kriv.
  • Kriv and Sarlor have a very akward moment that night.
  • The next day we follow the map and get attacked by kobolds.
  • After an epic battle the group was successfull in dispatching the kobolds.
  • We find an interesting looking pendant, check for traces of any information about its history yet can only tell that its old.
  • After a long walk we find a crater-like area with a few humanoids. We try talking to the dragonborns but a gnome interrupts and asks us what we are doing there.
  • we tell him we are looking for our master, he tells us that he went to get some tools and asked if we could help them look for an artifact thats buried in the crater.
  • We decide on playing along to the gnome’s requests, although we do not trust he is telling the truth.
  • As we get closer to the group we hear someone shout “GET THEM!!”
  • Sarlor offers 300G to anyone who kills the gnome!

Summary of Session #3(3/13/09)

  • Our Party had an epic battle with the gnome and his minions
  • · After wiping out all the gnome’s minions, he disappears!!
  • · Kandahar perceives a shimmering light next to Galph
  • · Everyone moves towards this light.
  • · The gnome appears and attacks Kandahar!
  • · We attacked the gnome and tried to get more information from him but the gnome will not talk!
  • · We find a pic of Douven’s wife on the locket the gnome had.
  • · We see a bag in the crater, it is moving.
  • · We find Douven inside the bag.
  • · He tells us about how he was attacked and captured while he was looking for an artifact.
  • · The artifact is a mirror. Douven offers to give us the locket, that has special abilities if we give him the mirror.
  • · We check if Douven is really who he says he is.
  • · We figure out its him.
  • · We ask him what the mirror does, why he wants it so much.
  • · He says the mirror is left over from a dragon’s treasure.
  • · He says the mirror has no powers.
  • · We check the mirror to see if it has any powers, we seem to not find anything with the mirror, however we see that the locket starts glowing.
  • · Douven tells us the amulet helps our vitality.
  • · We walk Douven back to town.
  • · Douven goes back to the Inn to rest.
  • · We distribute our loot and look for Padraig(mayor) since he wanted us to help him.
  • · Padraig comes into the inn later on in the day, we chat.
  • · We talk about the dragon necklace. It seems its related to a cult that the kobolds are involved in.
  • · Padraig talks to us about the kobolds and how he needs us to help him take care of them.
  • · Padraig tells us about how there is a Keep to the northeast that has been abandoned. He says the kobolds do not seem to be coming from that keep.
  • · Sarlor finds a note that talks about some hooded figures coming out of the Keep. Byrger reads the note.It seems these figures are harassing and taking food and items from the town.
  • · Byrger tells the group about this and we discuss it with Douven.
  • · Koryn talks about the strangeness of the rumours regarding the Keep, the groups discuss about the priority of whether to investigate the Keep or fight the kobolds.
  • · We talk to the old man in the pub(the one that gave us the map).
  • · We hear about the keep, how it was a watchtower built to watch gold marauders.
  • · The old man dismisses the cult as rumors.
  • · The group rests for the night.
  • · Reva asks if there is a library open in town and a mage.
  • · Sarlor, Reva, Galph and Byrger decide to go to the Mage Tower. The rest of the group stay behind waiting for the old man.
  • · Valthrum lets us into his tower and dismisses the “hooded figure” rumors.
  • · We ask about whether he knew any history about the Keep.
  • · The mage was not helpful at all so we storm out, gather back at the Inn and talk about this “Jeremiah” person. The one who wrote the note.
  • · The old man drew us a map to both the roadway to the Keep and to the Waterfall where the Kobolds hide.
  • · We find a clearing and some ruins. It seems there is a path through the rubble. There is a staircase leading down into the darkness.

Summary of Session #4(3/20/09)

  • · We go inside the dungeon, find some goblins who decide to attack us despite Byrger’s efforts to talk to them.
  • · Goblins mention something about us trying to get their treasure.
  • · We beat the goblins and continue to investigate the dungeon.
  • · We see a strange symbol on the floor. We check and sense magic, possibly a trigger.
  • · We continue exploring and find a second symbol, just like the first one.
  • · We end up running back to the first room we saw after going down a second set of stairs and engage in battle with undead.

Summary of Session #5(4/10/09)

  • We continue on deeper into the dungeon(Shadowfell Keep), we are attacked by hordes of the undead.
  • The undead hordes keep coming wave after wave.
  • We find an altar, seems to be related to Bahamut.
  • Kriv prays to the altar and the hordes of undead seem to stop appearing.

Summary of Session #6(6/07/09)

  • The battle ends and we see a white light approach from the end of the hallway.
  • We speak with this figure and he tells us that he is investigating the keep since it seems it its being inhabited again.
  • We talk to Kandahar and ask him to talk to this new person about what he really is looking for here.
  • He tells us about how there are some Winterhaven agents in the keep.
  • We discuss whether asking him to join us or not.
  • We decide to ask Wryth to join us.
  • We investigate the double door at the end of the hall and find nothing of consequence so we decide on going through.
  • We see a coffin in the new room, there is a carving of a warrior with a sword across his chest, pointing towards his feet.
  • We investigate the chest and find a story carved out on it of a warrior triumph and demise.
  • We find nothing of importance here, so we decide to leave.
  • We find a sword on the ground.
  • It seems this sword has magical properties that will assist us in defeating the enemies in this dungeon.
  • We move back into the room that has all the symbols.
  • Kandahar touched the symbols with his sword however, nothing happened.
  • We walk over one of the symbols and this loud sound caused some of us to lose hp and made Kriv run in fear to the sarcophagus room.
  • We continue down the hall and encounter a second symbol on the floor. We brave past it, despite taking damage and end up in a room full of undead!
  • We defeat all the undead and level up!
  • After resting, we continued exploring the dungeon, we found a room with stalactites and stalagmites and were attacked by giant rats.
  • We destroy most of the rats(except one that is attacking Byrger).
  • We discover another room with some planks and a Dragonborn who orders us to leave. We try to leave but get attacked by goblins.
  • We run away from the goblins and try to exit past a back door.

06/14/09

  • · We find a small cave with brackish water; there are coins and skeletons in this cave.
  • · A huge blob-like monster appears and after a long battle we finally destroyed it.
  • · After defeating the monster we decide on going back to the crypt with the dragonborn coffin.
  • · A voice comes from the crypt accusing us of being graverobbers but Kriv tries to tell him about our purpose inside the dungeon.
  • · The spirit asks us to seal the rift since he could not do so himself.
  • · The spirit talks to us about how he was influenced by the rift and driven insane.
  • · He killed his family and his officials in a mad fit of blind rage caused by the rift itself.
  • · He tells us the rift is in the depths of the keep but is unable to give us further directions.
  • · We ask him about the runes on the floors, but he does not know about this.
  • · He also does not know about how to close the rift.
  • · The spirits name is Sir Keenan.
  • · He asks us one final request, to barricade the keep so no one can enter after we leave.
  • · Sir Keenan mentioned about warding off grave robbers, so we run back to the area where there were goblins and 4 legged lizard men digging for treasure.
  • · We defeat the goblins and find a holy symbol.
